At Christmas, Santa visited the children. Two of them had asked for roller skates — the kind of thing Riviera children know about, unlike those of us who grew up in the village!
After they unwrapped their gifts, Merveille Ezer and I asked them to put the skates away. A nearby hypermarket offers skating lessons, so we planned to take them when we had some free time, hoping a few sessions would be enough.
On 1 January, I was sitting in the living room meditating on the prophetic words for the year when I saw them racing on the terrace. What?!
Doing the maths, between putting the skates away and racing on New Year's Day, they had taught themselves in two or three days, practising about one hour a day — their usual playtime before their evening shower.
As I wondered how they could master such a risky activity without adult or professional help, I heard a gentle inner voice:
“Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” [Matthew 19:14]
My God!
Children are not afraid of:

- New things.
- Unfamiliar experiences.
- Doubt.
- Getting up after a fall.
- Trying again after apparent failure.
- Taking initiative.
- Being fearless 😁.
How long has it been since you tried something new?
How many years has that training course remained just a plan?
How long have you been planning to start that new business?
How many years have doubt and the fear of failure lived in your heart?
A prayer for today
Lord God of the universe, give my spouse and me a child's heart. Let the divine child within us be revealed, so that the new and glorious things You want to do in these last days may come to life and become visible in palaces and to the ends of the earth, in Jesus' name!
